Owners Dr. Themis J. Michailides and wife Theodora are excited about becoming growers of UCB1 root stock for the Pistachio industry. Studies by the University of California have shown that our UCB1 trees are known for:

Vigorous growth “Limited variation” which is needed to resist and fight various strains of verticullium wilt. Tolerant of high salts in soil and water Have superb scion budding compatibility. Produce superior yields to the industries average. Resist freezes Limit sucker production Reduce development of early splits (early splits are considered the “Achilles heal” of contamination with aflotxins.)

After many years as a plant pathologist for the University of California solving disease problems for the agricultural industry his areas of specialty are: diagnosing fungal diseases and post- harvest diseases of fruit trees, nut crops, vines, ornamentals, and vegetables grown in California; pre-harvest aflotoxin and ochratoxin a contamination in tree nuts (pistachios, almonds, and walnuts), raisins and figs.

We are also growing the ornamental version of this tree available through us or Miller Clark Nursery. As an ornamental landscaping tree it provides a fast growing shaded tree that will tolerate many situations.
